SP-PSA INTERNATIONAL PORT RAISES VIETNAMESE PORT PRODUCTIVITY RECORD FOR THIRD TIME IN 12 MONTHS - 16/11/2010

SP-PSA International Port (SP-PSA) today set a new productivity record for Vietnamese container ports for the third time in less than 12 months, twice beating its own record, when it handled Maersk Line's 115,993 dwt vessel "Margrethe Maersk" at an average rate of  111 containers per hour during its port stay at SP-PSA.

The "Margrethe Maersk" has a capacity of 9,038 TEU (twenty foot equivalent units) and operates Maersk Line's TP6 direct weekly service together with 13 sister ships from Vietnam to the West Coast of the U.S.A.

General Director of Maersk Line Vietnam & Cambodia Mr Peter Smidt-Nielsen said  "We are very pleased to see the continued improvements in productivity, which enables us to reduce our port stay and helps ensuring the ever important reliability to our customers."

Mr Le Cong Minh, Chairman and General Director of Saigon Port and Chairman of SP-PSA commented , "By breaking the productivity record 3 times in less than 12 months, SP-PSA has shown its continuing commitment to providing the very highest level of service to our customers. We are immensely grateful to Maersk Line for their great support and cooperation. "

SP-PSA is a joint venture between Saigon Port, Vinalines and PSA Vietnam Pte Ltd, the latter is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PSA International Pte Ltd (PSAI).  SP-PSA commenced operations on May 29th 2009 and is Vietnam's first deep sea container terminal.

Strategically located near the mouth of the Cai Mep-Thi Vai river, SP-PSA is well positioned to serve the fast growing container traffic of Vietnam and become a major hub for ASEAN. The terminal will be developed in two phases, with the first phase of 600 metres of berths with 14.5m water depth now operational. When both phases (1,200 metres of berths) are fully completed, SP-PSA will have a projected annual capacity of over two million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of containers.
